Our latest business profile features Phoenix Tattoo on Quarry Street. They’re one of more than 300 businesses who make up our town centre and we’re delighted to showcase them on our Blog. We caught up with owner, Stephen Farmer, to find out more …

Phoenix Tattoo launched out in 2014. Stephen says: “We started the business initially as a tattoo removal business only. It became hugely successful, very quickly and we kept being asked who was the best person to cover tattoos or to create new ones.”

Stephen adds: “We decided early on in the life of the business that we should also bring tattooist into the family. We started initially with 1 or two tattooists and now we have increased this to 7 resident tattooist artists in total.” Today, they offer custom tattoos, body piercings and laser tattoo removal. The diversity of their tattoo artists enables them to offer “all styles of tattooing“. Stephen explains: “Tattooist tend to specialise in tattooing one or two different things – such as portraits, realism or Japanese themed – so having seven in house artists means we can give each customer something just as distinctive and unique as they are.”

Phoenix Tattoo is a custom studio which means that each design is created specifically for each customer. Stephen adds: “We don’t copy internet-found designs and we don’t tattoo our own designs more than once. We take each customer’s ideas and inspiration and create that into a design that is unique and perfect just for them.”

The professional, friendly and hygienic studio in the heart of Hamilton, employing 12 staff – the seven resident tattoo artists, an apprentice tattoo artist, two body piercers, one laser removal technician and a receptionist.

We asked Stephen what he sees as his greatest achievement: “We’re thrilled to have been voted by THREE BEST RATED in the top 3 tattoo studios in Lanarkshire for the last five consecutive years (2016-2020). Three best rated compile a 50 point system based on local reviews, history, trading standards, ratings, satisfaction, trust, price and general excellence.”

Finally, as with all of lour business profiles, we asked what would be the one thing you’d recommend for visitors: “It is vital in life to have a clear head and a hectic life makes that difficult sometimes. Personally, I love a walk around Chatelherault Country Park, it’s incredibly beautiful and very relaxing.” That’s a great tip!
