Campbell’s Barbers 75 years and still going strong…

The brilliant Campbell’s Barbers at 50 Campbell Street Hamilton have been serving the people of Hamilton and beyond for 75 years! Ran by Easton Campbell, this quality barber with extensive knowledge of traditional and modern barbering was founded in 1947 and is now in it’s 3rd generation. They are situated in the town centre, across from the police station. Check out our map feature: Campbells Barbers – Hamilton BID (hamiltonourtown.co.uk)

We asked Easton to tell us more about the history of this Hamilton institution and some of the challenges faced through the years!..

‘My Grandfather Alex Campbell opened the shop in January 1947 at 33 Chapel Street, which was where the TSB currently stands. My father Colin Campbell started running the business in 1973 and we traded from the same premises until 1980 when we forced to leave for the construction of the New Cross Centre’

We move across the road to the shop on the corner where Elaine Compton’s Hairdressers now trades. In 1984 we moved to our current shop, 50 Campbell Street. I have now ran the business since 1999.

Fortunately, despite the desolation caused to Campbell Street and Chapel Street by the New Cross Centre, we are still a very busy shop, mostly found by newcomers through Google and social media. We’ve also been voted ‘Best Barbers’ in Lanarkshire for the last 3 years’ – Easton Campbell.

Walk in’s are welcomed but you can also contact Easton and the team at campbellsbarbers@googlemail.com or 01698 286951.
